Chancellor's Professor James C. Liao will receive two major AICHE institute awards at the 2009 Annual AIChE Meeting in Nashville, the James E. Bailey Award for Outstanding Contributions to the field of Biological Engineering and the Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research. Professor Liao was also the recipient of the 2009 Marvin J. Johnson Award in Microbial and Biochemical Technology from the American Chemical Society and the 2008 Charles Thom Award of the Society of Insustrial Microbiology. |
The James Bailey Award is given to an individual who embodies the spirit of James Bailey, one that is a pioneer, a mentor, an innovator, an integrator of biology and engineering, a teacher, and one that has made a great impact to the field of biological engineering.
The Alpha Chi Sigma Award is given for outstanding accomplishments in fundamental or applied chemical engineering research.

Associate Professor Yi Tang will receive the Allan P. Colburn Award for Excellence in Publications at the 2009 Annual AIChE Meeting in Nashville. Professor Tang was also the recipient of the 2007 David and Lucile Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering, the the 2008 Camile Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship, and the Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering (PECASE) for his NSF CAREER award. |
The Allan P. Colburn Award for Excellence in Publications by Young Member of the Institute is presented to a member of AIChE for significant contributions to chemical engineering through publications. The recipient or recipients must be less than 36 years of age at the end of the calendar year in which the award is presented.
